about

Born out of northern California, Roy G Biv & The Mnemonic Devices exudes the essence of good times and happy melodies. Founded by Daniel Paggi and Benjamin Lang, the sound is evocative of the great folk-tinged rock of the past, touching on influences as varied as The Kinks and The Rolling Stones, to Neutral Milk Hotel and Dr. Dog. Their humble beginnings playing in a variety of Chico, CA based bands eventually paved the way to the dynamic songwriting partnership that became Roy G Biv & The Mnemonic Devices. The chemistry between the two was instantaneous and undeniable; the writing began and the band was formed.

Roy G Biv & The Mnemonic Devices is fast out the gate with “The Blue Orange”; the sophistication and maturity of the songwriting is something rare in a debut album. “The Blue Orange” was written and recorded entirely in the Richmond District of San Francisco, and the songs are saturated with all the beauty and weirdness of the city that surrounded them. The hook-laden melodies will dance through your head as they ruminate about life on the open road, the joys of sleeping in, love in the afterlife, the benefits of whiskey, and browsing through record stores. It is an album about the simple pleasures of life, with a laid back sound that cannot be resisted.

The band is planning a regional tour of the Pacific Northwest to promote their long-awaited debut album “The Blue Orange,” released in the Summer of 2009.
